Place tubes in plastic bag and store in safe, cool place, avoiding direct sunlight, and deliver to appropriate laboratory with laboratory slip. Ensure lab will have scheduled pickup or notify lab for pickup. 15. Discard all sharps and syringes with blood in sharps box. 16. Wash hands. DOCUMENTATION: Document venipuncture site, number of attempts, tests to be performed, name of lab to perform testing, patient tolerance of procedure. Once results are received, document physician notification and whether new orders received in clinical record. ____________________________________________________
