Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Rock the hand sideways. 19. Implement circumduction passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Rotate patient's hand in circular motion. 20. Implement finger and thumb extension and flexion passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Grasp patient's palm and wrist with one hand and gently extend or straighten patient's fingers with your other hand. c. Place your hand on back of patient's fingers and gently flex or bend patient's hand into a fist. d. Repeat items a, b and c with each finger. Individually extending and flexing each joint. 21. Implement finger and thumb abduction and adduction passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Abduct or spread two of patient's adjoining fingers apart; then adduct or bring two adjoining fingers together. c. Repeat items a and b for all fingers and both thumbs. 22. Implement finger and thumb opposition passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Put thumb and each fingertip together, one at a time. 23. Implement finger and thumb circumduction passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's arm in natural extended position. b. Rotate patient's thumb in a circle. 24. Implement hip and knee extension and flexion passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's leg flat on the bed in natural extended position. b. Place one hand under patient's ankle and your other hand under the knee. c. Flex or bend patient's hip and knee toward the chest, sliding your hand out from under patient's knee. d. Extend or straighten patient's hip and knee to natural extended position. 25. Implement hip and knee abduction and adduction passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Place your hands under patient's ankle and knee. b. Abduct or move patient's leg sideways, out and away from the other leg c. Adduct or move patient's leg sideways, back, over and across the other leg. 26. Implement hip and knee internal and external rotation passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Position patient's leg flat on bed. b. Grasp dorsal side of the leg above the ankle and at the knee. c. Rotate internally or roll patient's leg toward body midline. d. Rotate externally or roll patient's leg away from body midline. 27. Implement ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion passive range of motion exercise as follows: a. Place one hand under patient's heel and your other hand on the ball of the foot. b. Flex or push patient's foot toward the head and pull the heel back. c. Move your hand from ball of patient's foot to dorsal surface. d. Flex or pull patient's foot down toward bed and push patient's heel back.
