MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. 189 • The patient/family/caregiver should be provided with a written checklist of equipment information and safety checks including any manufacturer’s instructions for equipment with known significant safety hazards in a language and format that is reasonably understood. • The skilled nurse/therapist assesses and documents the patient’s/family’s/caregiver’s knowledge and performance of safety procedures on an ongoing basis and provides appropriate instruction as necessary. • When ownership of the equipment is transferred to the patient, medical supply company personnel/Agency staff provides the patient/family/caregiver with verbal and written instructions about maintenance and how to obtain necessary services to maintain correct operation of or to repair/replace the equipment.
