MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. BOARD OF DIRECTORS ORIENTATION PURPOSE: To acquaint Board members with the philosophy, services, goals and financial structure of the Agency. To orient Board members to their respective roles and responsibilities. POLICY: PHILOSOPHY · An orientation program is provided for all new Board members. The Board Vice-Chair and President are responsible for all the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the orientation program. · There are both formal and informal periods of orientation. The formal orientation includes sessions with members of the Board Executive Committee and staff; informal orientation includes learning experiences throughmeetings. All Boardmembers are encouraged to visit the organization during regular business hours to learn the operations of the agency and to accompany staff on a home visit if the patient gives his/her permission. SPECIFICS The following topics will be addressed in the formal orientation program: · Organization of the Agency · History, purpose and philosophy · Legal authority, Legal consultation · Organization chart and staff, organizational ethics · The Board and committee structure · Board of Directors, Review of Policy & Procedures · Board responsibilities · Program and Services, Agency scope of services, values, mission and goals · Staff recruitment and development · Continuous quality improvement program (Responsibility for the Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program) · Financial Aspects · Operational budget · Statistical reports · Sources of income, overview of programs, services and initiatives · Charges for services · Auditors · Personnel Policies, Personnel and patient grievance policies and procedures · State and Federal Regulatory Issues, Confidentiality practices and signing of a confidentiality statement · Legislative Issues · Health Care Trends · Questions and Answers Home Health Agency Policies A-28
