MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. MEDICAL DIRECTOR PURPOSE: To enhance the types and quality of services offered by the agency. To strengthen the agency’s ties with the medical community. (Position covered as needed, not required) POLICY: Consultation is needed by a physician responsible for the development and revision of medical and service policies/procedures. The physician will also facilitate resolution of various patient care issues with staff and other community physicians. PROCEDURE: · The Medical Director serves as a resource to staff on medical issues affecting patient care, performing the following functions: Attending case conferences when complex medical/ethical issues are involved. Consulting with primary care physicians when questions or conflicts arise that direct-care staff and managers have been unable to resolve. Assisting agency staff as needed, in negotiating with primary care physicians on issues of appropriate level of care. Working with primary care physicians, as needed, to develop and/or update themedical plan of care. Assisting primary care physicians to understand services and limitations of the agency. · The Medical Director serves as representative of the agency to the community in two key ways: Representing the agency and home health issues in general at community meetings or functions. Acting as liaison with physicians and others in the health care community. · The Medical Director provides medical supervision for community health projects and consults with management on practice issues regarding specific projects. · The Medical Director actively participates in the growth and development of the agency through various activities. These activities include but are not limited to the following: · QAPI activities · Development and Revision of Medical and Service Policies & Procedures · Membership on the Ethics Committee · Review of all Employees Health Files Assists with orders for Chest X-rays, TB Testing, and Hepatitis B Vaccine and/or other immunizations Home Health Agency Policies A-30
