MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. HEPATITIS B VACCINE POLICY: All Employees who are at substantial risk of an exposure to blood or body fluids during the performance of their job will be given the opportunity to receive the hepatitis B vaccination series. PROCEDURE: A. Should the Employee or a physician request that immunization be administered, the physician shall be required to monitor the Employee and provide the company with appropriate medical information within ten (10) days of employment. B. All Employees will be provided with a “information-sheet” concerning the hepatitis B vaccine. The employee must sign the consent to administer the hepatitis B vaccine series or sign the waiver to decline the vaccination. A copy of the signed consent/waiver form will be placed in the Employee’s health file. C. An employee who has received the vaccination greater than 7 years previous may request a titer prior to the administration of a Booster. The Employee’s Physician will review all titer results and make recommendations for the Hepatitis B booster. D. A health professional will screen employees who request to be tested for anti-hbc immunity prior to initializing the vaccine series. E. The employee will be provided with the hepatitis B information and the health professional will explain the hepatitis B “fact sheet”. F. The health professional will inform the Employee that by accepting the vaccine, they are indicating they are free from infections and/or communicable diseases. G. If employee presents with signs and symptoms of an active infection or illness, immunization will be postponed until the condition has cleared. H. The health professional will explain the time frame for completion of the series and set return dates for the second (2 nd ) and third (3 rd ) vaccine. I. The health professional administering the vaccine should ask about any reactions from the initial dose when the Employee returns for the second (2 nd ) and third (3 rd ) vaccine. Should an Employee initially decline the vaccination, and later decide to accept the vaccination, he/she will be provided with the vaccination at time in accordance with the procedures set forth in this policy. J. Post exposure evaluations and follow up will be made available for Employees whose test reflects exposure to Hepatitis B. K. Booster vaccinations will be provided as recommended by current CDC and OSHA guidelines as directed by the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager. L. The Employee is responsible for providing required information before and after receiving the vaccinations and for completing the series. Home Health Agency Policies A-48
