MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. 3. Packages of biomedical waste shall not be subjected to mechanical stress which will compromise the integrity of the package during transfer or storage. 4. The material is placed directly into red bags within the compacting unit and then placed into approved secondary container. 5. Compacted packages of biomedical waste must be treated by incineration or other approved method of treatment. Approved method of disinfection, such as steam sterilization, chemical, gas, dry heat, or microwaving, shall be considered upon written request and microbiological evidence that the proposed method provides the same degree of disinfection to compacted waste as to loose waste. VI. OFFSITE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL 1. Bagged biomedical waste that is being prepared for offsite transport prior to final treatment or disposal shall be enclosed in a rigid type container. 2. All surfaces contaminated with spilled or leaked biomedical waste shall be cleaned without solution of industrial strength detergent to remove visible soil before being disinfected with one of the following agents: (a). Steam for minimum of 30 second. (b). Rinsing for at least 3 minutes with one of the following chemical disinfectants: 1. Hypochlorite solution containing LOG parts per million, available free chlorine; or 2. Iodine solution containing 25 ppm. Available Iodine; or 3. Chemical germicides that are registered by the Environmental Protection Agency as hospital disinfectants and are tuberculoicidal when used at recommended dilutions and directions. 4. Liquid wants created by these chemical disinfection operations shall be disposed of into a sewage system. 3. All Biomedical Waste shall be picked up at Pt’s Home, by _________________________________________________________, and to be disposed of by steam, incinerator, or other alternative method. This biomedical waste should be picked up at least one time a month or as needed. 4. If there is a disruption in the current system being used for pick-up, then the generator will deliver the biomedical waste to our Agency by the patient’s caregiver for disposal by calling another Licensed Bio-Medical Waste transporter. Biomedical waste prepared for offsite transport prior to final treatment or disposal shall be enclosed in a rigid type container meeting requirement related to medical waste. All containers used need to have been tasted and be in compliance with regulations set. VII. RECORDS: All biomedical waste records are to be kept for 3 years. Records are to include the person who is receiving the containers, address, diagnosis and how often pick-up is necessary.
