MDT Home Health Care Agency, Inc. POLICY ON STANDARDS OF SOUND BUSINESS PRACTICE WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS OF SOUND BUSINESS PRACTICE? The Standards of Sound Business Practice (the Standards) are a set of stated business principles against which our boards of directors, Executive Officers, and leaders can measure their performance. We can determine if our leaders are meeting their management duties in a sound and prudent manner by comparing their performance with the Standards. Standards 1 – 5 relate to the duties and responsibilities of the board of directors and standards 1 – 10 relate to the duties and responsibilities of the Agency’s leaders. The principles in the Standards for the Board of Directors. 1) Manage and direct the Agency efficiently and appropriately; 2) Create an ethical and productive working environment for employees; and 3) Provide quality service to our patients/clients 4) Maintain Receipt and tracking of revenue 5) Assignment of revenue to the appropriate program The principles in the Standards for the Agency’s leaders: 1) Billing of patients and third party payers 2) Notification to the patient/family of changes in reimbursement from third party payers After billing department identified any change in reimbursement from third party payers, the head of the department will generate an explanatory report will all details about the change detected and will be presented to the Administrator. The Administrator will contact the supervisor or designee to make a telephone call or patient visit to explain to the patient and/or family the detected change. The Agency will make any necessary effort to collect reimbursement for our services, but if any problem/change are detected the patient/family will be informed, using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice form(see Policy) to bring them choices to adjust the services, payment and any consequence/responsibilities for the choice elected. 3) Collection of accounts 4) Reconciliation of accounts 5) Extension of credit, if applicable 6) Financial Hardship, if applicable 7) Consequences of non-payment 8) Acceptance of gifts and/or funds 9) Process for receiving, recording and acknowledging contributions, if applicable 10) Maintain accurate accountability The quality and soundness of the principles under which a business operates is a major contributor to the Agency’s long-term success.
