BILLING CLERK JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION SCOPE: To ensure effective billing for the services working with the company’s personnel, and through liaison with other organizations and individuals also providing care to the patient/client Also, to help in other areas of the clerical department as required. Lines of authority and reporting responsibilities: Report to the Administrator. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of a high school or with some years of high school education (no Diploma required) Preferably experienced within ambulatory diagnostic billing (at least one year). Evidence of knowledge of home care environment; Ability to work under stress, and to take rapid actions. Verbal and written communication ski11s Good organizational skills. Computer skills and knowledge of the billing software is a must. PERFORMANCE, ABILITIES AND STANDARDS: Gather the invoices for the services that the patient receives. Analysis the data and bills the third payers, and/or the patient when appropriate under the guidance of the hilling manager. Ensure HIPAA guidelines and procedures are maintained. Verifies the accuracy of the amounts and bills only for the services rendered Institutes a set of check points to make sure that the services were provided. Keeps track of the payments and post the payments against the invoices. Keeps track of denials and inaccurate payments. Understands the principles of payment ledger, generates tables and flow charts according to the services, referral sources, and/or payment sources. Keeps track of the late payments, and maintains the aging accounts payable. Participates in facility activities directed to implementation of safety management program, security plan, utility plan, emergency preparedness plan, etc. Is responsible for confidentiality issues. Understands the nature and type of the patient/client population serviced, The billing clerk, under the guidance of the billing manager/Administrator will communicate with other organizations or individuals when this is necessary for the patient’s service reimbursement. The billing clerk will be aware of the responsibilities of all organizations and individuals involved in patient’s/client’s care/service including the coverage For the services rendered. The billing clerk will make sure that there are no duplications in billing for the services provided. If a duplication is found, immediate corrective action will be taken. The billing clerk will be involved in the communication with the payers. The communication with the paying source will be as frequent as the situation warrants.
