POLICY AND PROCEDURE CONTINUING EDUCATION POLICY ON IN-SERVICE TRAINING All field staff of our health services shall undergo during a year some refresher courses on current trends in nursing care. Such a course will be given here at our office and will consist of discussions of printed materials, manuals, internet learning, journals, in house lectures and demonstrations, protocols, and/or tape viewing on topics that relate to patient care and services, infection control, bloodborne pathogens, patients/employee safety programs, emergency management plan, medical devices, relationship with patient, Grievance procedures, Patients’ Bill of Rights, Ethics manners, Cultural diversity, Drugs and their uses, bedside manners, and any new laws, regulations or standards of care. The courses shall be conducted jointly by the Administrator and/or the Nursing Director, and will be supervised by a RN, and each participant will be signed off upon successful completion of the course. The course shall last for one day, between (2 - 4 hours). Our Agency will provide this training directly or arrange for personnel to attend sessions offered by outside sources. The in-service education plan is a written document that outlines the education to be offered for personnel throughout the year (We will Post in our Information Board the Annual Calendar of In- Services). Our plan is based on reliable and valid assessment of needs relevant to individual job responsibilities. Ongoing education activities include methods for obtaining information about personnel learning needs, outcome data from competency assessments, and personnel input about the effectiveness of the in-services provided. Education activities also include a variety of methods for providing personnel with current relevant information to assist with their learning needs. How many contact hours is needed to renew the license: Non direct care personnel (office staff) have a minimum of 8 hours of in-service/continuing education per year. Direct care personnel (field staff), including home health aides, must have a minimum of 12 hours of in-service/continuing education during each 12-month period. Personal Care Workers: 8 hours. Homemaker/Chore Workers: 4 hours. NURSES: All Florida-licensed RN’s and LPs, ARNPs are now in a 24-month renewal cycle and must complete 24 hours of appropriate continuing education during each renewal period. The 24 hours must include two (2) hours on Prevention Medical Errors. HIV/AIDS is now a one-time, 1-hour CE requirement to be completed prior to the first renewal. Domestic Violence (DV) CE is now a 2-hours requirement every third renewal. Since Domestic Violence (DV) is a 2-hours requirement, the licensee will have 26 hours of CE during the renewal period when DV is taken. HOME HEALTH AIDE/ CNA CNA: To reach the license must be complete at least 40 hours of training HHA: 75 hrs Home Health Aides/CNA assisting with self-administered medication, must receive a minimum of 2 hours of training. HHA/CNAs employed by home health agencies accepting Medicare and Medicaid are required to complete 12 hours of in-service training during each 12-month period Every two years, in-service training hours may include: HIV/AIDS (one time training, lifetime), Infection Control, Domestic Violence, Medical Record Documentation and Legal Aspects Appropriate to Nursing Home Health Agency. - - Personnel/Operations Policies B-72
