One of the following phrases shall be used in conjunction with the International Biohazard Symbol: “BIOMEDICAL WASTE, BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE, BIOHAZARD, INFECTIOUS WASTE, OR INFECTIOUS SUBSTANCE". 5 The transporter may provide labels for bags, sharps containers, or outer container numbers. 6. A transporter who provides generator-specific labels shall, as part of the label, provide both the generators name and transporter name, address, emergency telephone number and registration number. IV. ONSITE STORAGE AND CONTAINMENT 1. Storage (a) Storage of biomedical waste shall not be for a period of greater than 30 days. The 30 days time period shall commence when the first non-sharp items and biomedical waste is placed into a red bag or sharp container, or when a sharp container containing only sharps is full and closed. Sharp container is considered full when the designated fill line, or if, a fill line is not indicated when additional materials can not be placed into the container without cramming. (b) If biomedical waste is stored on site, then the storage area must meet the following minimum criteria: 1. All storage area shall be restricted and be located away from pedestrian traffic, be vermin and insect tree and shall be maintained in a sanitary condition. 2. Biomedical waste storage areas shall, be constructed of smooth easily, cleanable material that is impervious to liquid. 2. Containment (a) Containment of biomedical waste shall be appropriate for the type of waste generated and the type of treatment anticipated.
